Interviews patients, representatives and reviews information from other departments and edits or updates accounts with information if needed.  Thorough understanding of statement cycle, collection events, collection letters, mail or any other correspondence such as explanation of benefits, and adjustment batches.  Utilizes approved Internet websites to help in collection of balances and keep updated on governmental and other agency rules and regulations.   Understands provider based billing and hospital collection policy and guidelines and discusses with patient or representative.  Thorough knowledge of SSI electronic claims system, and Meditech BAR, PBR, APR, and PWM modules.  Maintains current information of billing procedures, including but not limited to, proper claim forms, appeals, bundled or late charges, local medical review policies, non-covered charges, denied charges, non billable charges, advance beneficiary notices, and overpayments, according to government or other agencies and their regulations.  Maintains integrity of accounts according to those rules and regulations.

Primary Duties:

The Medical Assistant (Certified) is responsible for putting patients in exam rooms and obtaining vitals, a history, room set up for the physician, scheduling tests ordered by the physician, record all information in the proper template within the Electronic Medical Record and pre-certify procedures with the patient’s insurance company. Medical Assistant’s will work closely with the RN or LPN in answering telephones, checking messages, cleaning up exam rooms, draw blood for laboratory tests.  The Medical Assistant (Certified) will also be trained to work at the front office if needed.

Mops floors, corridors, and stairwells. Strips old floor finish and applies new floor finish as needed. Burnish floors, wet extracts floor mats and carpets. Cleans equipment and checks/refills water level in battery-operated equipment. Cleans used floor pads. Assists with room set-ups, soiled linen and waste collection and patient room cleaning as assigned. Assists with spill clean-ups and relocation of furniture.
